Detention Facility Administrator – Captain Joe Lucas
The Columbia County Detention Facility serves the public safety interests of Columbia County effectively, efficiently and professionally.
The Columbia County Detention Facility is located at 389 NW Quinten Street and it is one of the largest divisions within the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office. It is responsible for booking and detention of all arrested persons in the county, including those arrested by law enforcement agencies as well as the Sheriff’s deputies. The Division Commander is a Captain and has overall responsibility for the operation of the detention facility. The Division has several departments vital to it’s mission to maintain the care, custody, and control of the inmate population. These departments are broken up as follows: Corrections, Medical, Booking, Classification, Administration, and Warrants.
The Columbia County Warrants Section is responsible for the service of all Warrants within the county. The Warrant Section consists of three full-time clerks who receive and process all warrants issued by the Columbia Third Circuit Courts and Columbia County Courts. They also receive and process all warrants from other agencies in which the person being sought is believed to be in Columbia County. All of the warrants and other criminal process are entered into local databases. The clerks are responsible for making entries into the Florida Crime Information Center (FCIC)/National Crime Information Center (NCIC) databases on selected warrants. The clerks coordinate with other agencies on prisoner transportation and provide other agencies with information on warrants and criminal process held or received by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office. The clerks provide investigative assistance to investigators or other department personnel.
